Biodiversity
is the diversity of life. Biodiversity consist variety of plants and animals in an ecosystem and the variation in their genetic makeup. Biodiversity is a measure of the health of an ecosystem. Biodiversity does not segregate or leave any specie out because no matter the size each specie has an important role. The concept of Biodiversity can be seen in three levels, ecosystems, species and genes (genetic diversity) and they are all interconnected. It is important to realize that in nature there is often a reason why things are found where they are and that every habitat is a group of species. If you remove it form its natural habitat than you are jeopardizing or putting nature in harm. Biodiversity is facing a great challenge due almost entirely to humans due to their interaction with nature like habitat destruction. Deforestation which causes animals to relocate and look for a new home causes these species to go into extinction. It is taking these species out of their normal habitat and leaving them without a home in rapid changing temperature. The rapid increase in human population has caused major threats to our natural environment and many of its species. Many species have had no chance to adapt to the new condition. It is obvious that we do need land to grow crops on, and we do need construction material to build houses for people to live in and, of course, we need to find ways to feed all people of the world. The problem is just how we could do this without causing more disturbance on nature, and what the results may be if we ignore the conservation of nature trying to solve these problems. Statistics show that many species are not known to man and therefore it is difficult to count which species have encountered extinction and which will soon be facing extinction. Statistics show that 25% of active ingredients in today’s cancer fighting drugs come from organisms only found in the forest, at least 40% of the world’s economy and 80% of the needs of the poor are derived from biological resources and the richer the diversity of life is the greater the opportunity for medical discoveries, economic development, & adaptive responses to such new challenges as climate change. Most of our medicine come from plants, many of which are now endangered by us.The sad truth is all these statistics are being harmed and we must all come together as one to terminate future problems of extinction and natural services offered to humans by biodiversity.
